Police hold two for murdering farmer

Breman Gyamera, (C/R) May 4, GNA - The Asikuma Police have arrested two people for allegedly murdering a 31 year-old farmer, Yaw Nkrumah.

The suspects, Kwesi Mensah, an Akpeteshie distiller and Kobina Asare, a farmer are both from Breman Asuokor. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwadwo Owusu, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Police Commander told newsmen that Mensah supplied the deceased Akpeteshie worth 50,000 cedis to sell.

A week later, Mensah in the company of Asare went to Gyamera, the hometown of the deceased early in the morning to demand the money from him. The deceased took them to Madam Abena Asantewaah, a drinking bar operator, who promised to pay the money at an agreed date, the prosecution said.

The prosecution told the court that the suspects then left for Asuokor leaving the deceased behind. The deceased later left Gyamera and was not seen again until Thursday April 20, when a search party found his decomposed body and the clothes he was wearing in the bush at the outskirts of the town.

The search party reported the matter to Nana Tutu, chief of Gyamera, who immediately informed the Police. The body was conveyed to the Cape Coast Central Hospital for autopsy, the prosecution told the court.
