Police denies raid on Gbevlo-Lartey residence

Accra, Sept. 7, GNA - Police on Wednesday denied raiding the house of Lieutenant-Colonel Gbevolo-Lartey, former commander of the disbanded 69 Battalion Commandos as was being speculated by a section of the media.
Nana Owusu-Nsiah, Inspector General of Police told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that Police Patrol team rather entered Ghana Airways flat near the Electoral Commission after a security man at the Commission called the team that stones were being thrown into the premises.
He said when the team arrived at the scene, another stone was thrown and they traced the direction to the Six apartment block which happened have among its occupants, Lt. Col. Gbevolo-Lartey.
He said the patrol team were even not aware that former Commandos boss was leaving in that flat.
When contacted by the GNA, Chief Superintendent Kwesi Duku, District Police Commander at Adabraka, said the four persons were arrested when the Police rounded up people in the vicinity where the stones hailed from.
They are Caesar Addae-Conutsey, 39, Administrative Assistant of Ghana Telecom, Peter Asiedu, a 23 year old student of Accra Polytechnic, Daniel Ekubi, 26 year-old security guard and Martias Marshal Lemboe, 33 year-old teacher.
He said all have been granted Police enquiry bail as investigations were continuing.
Mr Duku said the operation had nothing to do with Lt. Col. Gbevolo-Lartey and that it was a routine police investigation. He said the flat was being occupied by a number of people other than Col. Gbevolo-Lartey and that the Police only went to the direction from where they saw the stones hailed from and rounded up those they saw at the scene.
