Police demolish popular tilapia eatery at East Legon

The Accra Regional Police Command has said it will carry out more demolishing exercises in the capital city in the coming days as part of efforts to clean the city.

The Accra Regional Director of Operations, Superintendent Kwesi Ofori, said the exercise will affect traders selling on pavements and unauthorised places.

This follows the demolition of a popular drinking spot called Atemuda Bar as well Phillipo’s Tilapia and other unauthorised structures used for commercial purposes at East Legon.

The police stormed the place with 15 vehicles on Sunday to arrest the owners of the bar for selling drinks that have narcotics in them.

Superintendent Ofori said the police will extend the exercise to cover other areas in the capital.

He said: “We’re going to extend this exercise. Earlier, the mayor made his intention clear that he is going to clean the city, restore the city to a better one and the police, as a law enforcement agency, will support the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in its strive to clean the mess in the city. We’re going to have some snap checks among others to ensure public safety in their communities...”
