The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist Daniel Adomako, popularly known as Sir Obama Pokuase.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs of the Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, his arrest is in connection with the sharing of videos and images on social media in which some individuals are openly seen brandishing illegally acquired weapons.

“The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with other security agencies, has arrested Mr Daniel Adomako, known on social media as ‘Sir Obama Pokuase,’ earlier today.

“His arrest is part of ongoing intelligence-led operations by the Police and other security agencies aimed at dismantling networks involved in the illegal possession and display of sophisticated weapons. He is assisting investigations into some images and videos he circulated on social media depicting individuals openly brandishing these illegally acquired sophisticated weapons,” the police said.

The statement added that the operation has been ongoing for some weeks and has led to the retrieval of a substantial number of illegal arms and ammunition.

It further noted that, in a related development, the police have arrested three other persons in connection with a threat of death and the publication of false news following the August 6, 2025, fatal helicopter crash.

“In a related development, three other persons, Prince Ofori, Yayra Abiwu, and Emmanuel Kwakye, are in the custody of the Police, assisting with the ongoing investigation into cases of threat of death and publication of false news following the recent helicopter crash,” the statement, dated Wednesday, August 13, 2025, said.

Prior to the statement on Wednesday, the Police had announced the arrest of two other persons as part of investigations into a viral TikTok video in which an individual threatened the lives of the President of the Republic, HE John Dramani Mahama, and his wife, Lordina Mahama.

“The Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into a viral TikTok video in which an individual is heard threatening the lives of the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the First Lady. So far, two people, Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu, are in Police custody assisting with the ongoing investigation, while efforts are underway to apprehend other persons believed to be connected to the video to assist the investigation,” a police statement said.
