Police arrest three robbers, launch manhunt for two others

The police have arrested and detained three suspected robbers, said to be terrorizing and making life uncomfortable for residents of Asokwa in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Together with two others on the run, they had attacked and robbed a man and his fiancée in their Hyundai Elantra saloon car, at gunpoint, of their cash of GH¢930.00, jewellery and mobile phones on Friday, September 15, at midnight.

They then continued to a Guest House at Kaase about 0130 hours, where they held the receptionist and security man hostage, as they went from room to room to rob the guests of their valuables.

Their names were given as Frank Mensah, alias ‘Nenyor’, Samuel Opoku, alias ‘Sammy Tuga’ and Kwabena Asare, alias ‘Santon’.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told journalists that the five had already confessed to carrying out the two robberies.

She said one of the victim’s had also identified a mobile phone seized from him, which was recovered by the police after they had been arrested.

She indicated that the suspects were assisting in police investigations and would be arraigned as soon as they were done with their investigations.

She added that a massive manhunt had been launched to arrest their fugitive accomplices – Kwame Puffy and Kofi, bring to them to justice.

Separately, the Ejisu Police had seized three men, reported to have robbed an MTN Mobile Money vendor of his cash of GH¢1,700.00 and mobile phone at knife point.

ASP Obeng said the suspects – Charles Sarpong, alias ‘Gangster’, Sylvester Frimpong, alias ‘This Way’ and Richmond Abban broke into a room where the victim was sleeping, drew a knife and ordered that he surrendered the day’s sales and mobile phone or get killed.

Afraid for his life, he did as he was told and the three escaped with their booty.

The victim, who took a good look at his attackers was able to identify one of them, Sarpong to the police and he was arrested.

An amount of GH¢470.00 was retrieved from during a search conducted on him by the police.
ASP Obeng said Frimpong and Abban were arrested when they rushed to the police station to visit Sarpong on hearing of his arrest.

Frimpong was found with cash of GH¢351.00 and the victim’s stolen phone hidden in his underwear while GH¢300.00 was found on Abban.

They confessed to the crime and led the police to recover a pair of scissors they claimed to have used for the robbery.
