The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a robbery syndicate believed to be responsible for a violent robbery at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area, following months of investigations and intelligence-led operations.

According to a statement issued by the police on August 4, 2026, the suspects were arrested in connection with a robbery that occurred on March 11, 2026, at about 11:00 p.m.

The police said the complainant, Oris Oduro, had closed his gold-buying business at Tamakloe and hired an Okada rider to transport him to his residence at Wassa Akropong when they were ambushed by armed robbers.

“While en route, they were attacked by armed men who robbed them at gunpoint,” the statement said.

The robbers reportedly made away with GH¢24,000 in cash, seven pounds and six matches of gold valued at GH¢94,530, an iPhone XR mobile phone and a Tecno Spark 12 mobile phone.

The police said investigations began immediately after the robbery was reported.

“Following the report, the police immediately commenced investigations into the incident,” the statement noted.

The Command said intelligence-led operations conducted on July 21 and 22, 2026, at Duaso and Domeabra led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Kwabena Amuah, 25, alias “IK”; Mohammed Nasir, 28, alias “Mallam”; Samuel Agyei, 24, alias “Okese-1”; and Kofi Gyasi, 26, alias “Brefo.”

The suspects were arraigned before the Wassa Akropong District Court on July 23, 2026, where they were remanded into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

The police said efforts are underway to apprehend another suspect, identified only as “Agogo,” who remains at large.

“The Western Central Regional Police Command is actively pursuing the remaining suspect, Agogo, and urges anyone with credible information regarding his whereabouts to report to the nearest Police Station,” the statement said.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Command assured residents that it remains resolute in tackling crime across the region.

“The Regional Police Command assures the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining peace and security, and bringing all perpetrators of crime to justice,” the statement added.
