The Nkawie Divisional Police Command has apprehended four men posing as soldiers for allegedly robbing illegal miners at Amadaa in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
According to a report by dailyguidenetwork.com, the suspects, arrested on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, were found with two AK-47 rifles, a military knife, handcuffs, and substantial amounts of money taken from the miners during the attack.
Police confirmed that the group, comprising two Chinese nationals and two Ghanaians, held the miners hostage during the operation.

Investigations revealed that the robbery was orchestrated by a miner known only as Simon, who allegedly gained the trust of his colleagues before hiring the fake soldiers to rob them.
“Initially, he pretended to be an informant and even pleaded on behalf of the suspects when they were picked up. But we later discovered that he planned the whole operation. He managed to escape arrest when his cover was blown,” the report quoted a police source.

The case has been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for further investigation, particularly due to the involvement of foreign nationals.
However, a manhunt is underway for Simon, who remains at large.
According to the report, residents of Amadaa confirmed that the miners, including the suspects, were part of the local community.
