Police arrest 2 notorious robbers

The police in Accra have announced the arrest of two notorious armed robbers and their accomplices in Accra.

At a press conference in Accra on Sunday, the police said the suspects Sowah Tetteh, 25, and Moses Martei, 30, were picked up on June 26 shortly after a robbery incident.

Their accomplices, Michael Adjei Osekre, 24, and Yaw Appiah, 20, were later arrested, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohonu, Greater Accra Regional Police Commander said.

According to him, “On June 26, 2013 at about 2.30am, suspects Sowah Tetteh who is unemployed and Moses Martei, a taxi driver both armed with a sharp machete, drove their Nissan March taxi cab No. GT 6608–13,” to the house of a complainant, Prince Adedoyin, who lives at Teshie Kiddy Care.

Suspect Sowah Tetteh, he said, scaled over the wall into the house of the complainant and threatened to slash him with the cutlass he was wielding, if he did not succumb to his demand while suspect Moses Martei waited at the entrance of the house.

According to him, Sowah Tetteh managed to rob the complainant of his two laptops, three mobile phones and cash of GH¢250.00.

“Suspect Sowah Tetteh not satisfied with the booty, locked the complainant and his two friends in a bathroom,” DCOP Yohonu added.

The police said the suspect later joined his accomplice in a waiting taxi cab and fled to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, but they were arrested when they were about to sell the stolen items.

DCOP Yohonu noted that, during investigations, the suspects admitted robbing the victim and confessed having engaged in numerous robberies within the Accra metropolis with another suspect Michael Adjei Osekre.

Yaw Appiah, a recipient of all the goods from the robbery attacks was arrested together with Michael Adjei Osekre.

"After investigations, they will all be put before court,” the police added.
