Police allegedly beat commercial driver to pulp

Police in Konongo of the Ashanti region have allegedly assaulted a commercial driver slapping him several times and beating him with batons.

The victim, Matthew Boamah revealed to Ultimatefmonline.com the police threw him into Police cells after his unfair beating.

He narrated that a taxi driver run over his toe and when he complained, one of the passengers got out of the taxi and engaged him in a scuffle and then left the scene.

He only returned with a policeman dressed with a helmet on.

The policeman refused to listen to his side of the story but rather handcuffed him and dragged him to the Konongo Police Station.

He complained that the driver was allowed to go without being questioned adding that no statement was taken from him.

“The Policemen at the station took turns slapping me and beating me with batons until I had marks and my skin turned reddish, my back and elbow all turned reddish. They then threw me in the cells,” he told Ultimatefmonline.com.

Matthew Boamah recounts the incident occurred around 7pm and he was only released between the hours of 10 and 11 pm after being forced to pay GH¢100 cedis to “bail himself”.

He indicated that the police again took GH¢20 from him.
