A police officer with the Central Police Station in Kumasi has shot and killed himself at Tafo a suburb of Kumasi.

According to Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice who visited the crime scene Wednesday, residents say a gunshot was heard from the room of the deceased officer, Ebenezer Kofi Okyere, in the morning attracting neighbours to his room.

The police officer is said to have received a call in the early hours of Wednesday, and was heard by his girlfriend saying to the other person on the other end of the phone “If you say I’m the father of the baby then I will kill myself for you to find the father of the baby”.

After the phone call, the officer is reported to have sacked his girlfriend from the room and shot himself in the throat with pellets seen in his head. Terrified residents who rushed to his room found him slumped in his chair with a gunshot wound to his neck.

An alarm was subsequently raised after which some neighbours and police conveyed the body to the mortuary.

The deceased officer was with the SWAT division of the Central Police Command and was on escort duties as well, hence was allowed a weapon always. The regional police command is yet to inform the family of the officer at Nsuta in the region.
