Police MTTU clamp on licence BI drivers

Kumasi, Aug 04, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) have mounted a special exercise to clamp down on drivers who are using Licence BI to drive commercial vehicles. Chief Superintendent Augustine Gyening, the Ashanti Regional commander of the MTTU, told the GNA that 24 drivers have so far been arrested since the start of the exercise a week ago. He said the licences had been taken from them and that they would be prosecuted.

Chief Supt Gyening said the licences have been sent to the Drivers Vehicles and Licensing Authority (DVLA) and before they could have them back, they would have to go through re-testing. He said the exercise was on going and it is aimed at getting rid of drivers who are not supposed to use such licence to drive commercial or heavy-duty vehicles.

Chief Supt Gyening said special education is also being given to car owners to ensure that their vehicles are not given to unqualified drivers.
