Police Find Three Corpses In The Metropolis

The police have been kept busy this weekend by three reported deaths in different parts of the city. The first to be reported was that of a young woman believed to be in her twenties whose body was discovered on Saturday in a river near the suburb of Teshie-Nungua. JOY FM reporters, who visited the site, said the naked body appeared to have been burnt. A piece of rubber had been stuffed in her mouth and a condom was found on her finger. The police estimate that the body could have been there for almost a week.

The body of another woman, believed to be in her early fifties, was also discovered naked Sunday afternoon near the Swiss embassy at the residential Suburb of Ridge. Residents identified the woman as Julie, who lived in the neighborhood.

The Police also discovered the body of a man near a washing bay close to the Awudome cemetery. The man believed to be in his forties was foaming on the lips and his body was covered with ants. Residents say he was spotted on Saturday in the area apparently drunk. However, no one could immediately tell how he died. The Kaneshie Police who conveyed the body to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Mortuary also have no clue as to the cause of death.

In all of these reports, the attitude of the police has raised some concerns among residents of the three suburbs. In the case of the woman whose body was discovered at Teshie-Nungua on Saturday, the police only went to pick the body a day after even though it had been reported earlier. The Nima police, who also received the report about the second dead woman at Ridge this morning, are yet to retrieve the corpse. According to residents, the police told them that there was no vehicle to convey the body to the Police Hospital.
