Police CID to investigate threats on Afari Gyan

COP Prosper Kwame Agblor, Director of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, says he has ordered that investigations be undertaken into the recent revelations of threats on the life of the Electoral Commission chairman.

COP Agblor said, even though his outfit has not received any formal complaints from Dr. Afari Gyan, he intends to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter.

Dr Afari Gyan, on Wednesday, stated that some people have started threatening his life over the intended creation of the 45 new constituencies in the country.

He gave a strong indication that he will not be frightened into veering off from the creation of the constituencies because the commission is only carrying out its constitutional mandate.

Speaking to XYZ News, the CID boss said “we’ve not received any official complaints from Dr. Afari Gyan. However, since he has put it out in the public domain I have sent some officers to contact him for a statement, then we can investigate the matter.”

He said even though the EC Chairman is not an ordinary citizen, his concerns will be investigated like any ordinary Ghanaian and the needed action will be taken.
