The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested ten men linked to a disturbing viral video that showed two young women being physically assaulted in Wassa Dawurampong in the Wassa Amenfi East District for allegedly stealing money from a gold-buying shop.
The arrests were carried out by the IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team in collaboration with the Western Central Police Command.
According to the police statement, three of the suspects, identified as Eric Donkor (also known as Killer Block), 32; Yaw Gyimah, 29; and Edmond Nartey, 24, were captured in the viral footage actively participating in the assault.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, shows one suspect cutting the scalp of one of the victims with a sharp razor.
The suspect alleged to have wielded the razor, identified as Tawiah alias Awaga, is still at large, and police say efforts are underway to track him down.
Seven additional suspects, Stephen Amu, 24; Farouk Balas, 18; Mensah Bernard, 18; Adul Ruqqieq, 23; Bismark Nyarko, 30; Akwesi Poku George, 18; and Oteng Alfred, 23, were also arrested for aiding and abetting the assault.
Police say all suspects will be screened, after which the main culprits will be arraigned before the court.
Authorities are also working to locate the victims and provide them with medical treatment and any necessary assistance.
The statement, signed by the Regional Police Commander, D.C.O.P. Desmond Owusu Boampong, urged the public not to resort to instant justice. The command also reminded citizens to hand over suspects to the police and allow investigations to follow due process.
