A 25-year-old plumber, who was found in possession of a waste bag containing 19 wraps of rocky substances suspected to be narcotic drugs without authority, has been sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.
The court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah, sentenced Prosper Gadawor after a full trial.
In addition to the rocky substances, Gadawor also had 30 wraps of dry plant materials and 71 tablets in envelopes of dry plant materials in his possession without authority. He was charged with the unlawful possession or control of narcotic drugs.
Police Chief Inspector Benson Benneh narrated the facts of the case, stating that the complainants were police officers stationed at the Mamprobi Police Station, while the convict resided in Camara.
On March 3, 2023, at approximately 5:30 PM, the Mamprobi Police Command conducted an operation to arrest drug peddlers and users within its jurisdiction. Upon reaching Chorkor, Santana, at a known drug den, they encountered Gadawor attempting to flee the scene.
After a pursuit, Gadawor was apprehended and taken to his room, where a search revealed a waist bag containing the suspected narcotic substances. The prosecution stated that Gadawor confessed to the offense in his caution statement, and the seized items were sealed in his presence.
The exhibits were subsequently sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
