Plagiarism Charges: Legon Failed to Inform MP?

According to an Accra-based radio station - JoyFM - the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu says he is yet to be served any official notice that he is being investigated by authorities of the University of Ghana for alleged plagiarism.

The radio station reported last Friday that, after a heated debate, the academic board of the university had revoked a Master’s Degree in Sociology it awarded the young MP after traces of plagiarism were allegedly found in his thesis titled ‘Sociological Investigation into Bribery and Corruption in the Public Service of Ghana’ which earned him the degree in 2000.

While denying any wrong doing in his academic pursuits, Haruna said his only notices of his being investigated has been through the media and would seek legal counsel if he is officially informed of any adverse findings against him.
He told th radio station on Monday that, he worked hard, wrote and passed his examinations while in school and therefore finds it intriguing that six years after his Bachelor’s degree, he would be the subject of an academic investigation.
