A physically challenged woman, Rita Cosmos, has been forced onto the streets after her brother allegedly sold her house.

According to Ibrahim Kwarteng of the Crime Check Foundation, the woman bought a piece of land from her brother and erected a building on it in which she has been living in for years.

Her brother then sold the house to someone without her knowledge. The new owner notified the woman to pack out of the house but she refused, arguing that she had bought the land from her brother and had toiled to put up the building.

Eventually, the case went to court and the judge ruled in favour of the new owner since the physically challenged woman could not provide receipts to prove that she had indeed bought the piece of land from her brother.

Rita has been forced to pack out onto the streets after the judgment.

Ibrahim Kwarteng has, on his Facebook page, expressed frustration over some of the decisions made in our courts. He writes: “Her tears blew me apart. I am not a lawyer, so find it difficult to understand the legalities, but it appears some of the decisions of our learned judges are nerve wrecking, to say the least.”

Crime Check Foundation has helped many who have suffered some form of disadvantage through the justice delivery system.
