Photos: Memorial service held for lives claimed

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur yesterday June 8, 2015 led the nation to begin the 3 Day National Mourning for the more than 150 lives claimed in last Wednesday’s flood and fire disaster.

The memorial service was held at the Flagstaff House in Accra; with a minute of silence observed for the departed souls and families.

All flags have been asked to fly at half-mast across the country while citizens are being encouraged to wear black clothes or red armbands for the three-day period to mourn with the families of the victims of the disaster.

The 3 days of mourning will end on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 with a memorial service for the departed near the site of the fire disaster at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to be attended by President John Dramani Mahama.

Meanwhile, a statement signed by the Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has encouraged the public to remember the victims and pray for strength and comfort for their families and friends as they go about their duties.

Present at the memorial service were the government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, heads of the security agencies, chairmen of NDC, PNC, and NPP, Kofi Portuphy, Ahmed Ramadan and Paul Afoko as well as the clergy
