Perpetrators will not be spared – Cephas Arthur on NPP attacks

The Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur has stated that perpetrators of vandalism will not be spared if they are arrested.

His statement is in response of the concurrent post-election attacks by some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“We [the Police] are looking out for those who will want to perpetrate acts of criminality and looking out for those who have gone into hiding. Nobody will be spared,” he said.

Nana Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the NPP, defeated incumbent President Mahama of the NDC with 53.85% of the total votes cast in last Wednesday’s polls. President Mahama, however, trailed behind with 44.40%, thus truncating his second term bid.

Meanwhile, in the cause of jubilation, some NPP supporters have resorted to violence on NDC members nationwide.

A Police statement earlier signed by Superintendent Arthur cautioned those who are engaging in acts of vandalism and attacks to desist from such acts, as the Police officers who have been deployed to maintain law and order, will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute those who break the laws of the land.

“Police officers some arrests have been made, thus I am calling on the general public to respect the right of other people and not breach the peace prevailing the country”, he warned.

Speaking on the individual attacks on Ghanaian celebrities like Mzbel, Mr Beautiful, and Wofa K, the Superintendent advised that such cases be reported directly to the police for maximum protection.

“However, If you are a target and you don’t inform the police…we will not know….we will only provide general protection for everybody”, Superintendent Arthur concluded.
