Ghanaian Media Personality, Paul Adom-Otchere, has disclosed a conversation he claims he had with an important member of the National Democratic Congress who is currently outside the country.

According to him, the said senior NDC member told him there are internal discussions underway regarding the party’s choice of candidate.

Speaking with Accra-based Joy Prime on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, he explained that the said member of the ruling party (NDC) said that due to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to elect Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer, it is best that they also elect a candidate from the Ashanti Region.

“I was in a conversation with a very important NDC person outside the country. Now, he was telling me that they have made a decision that because the NPP has selected Mahamudu Bawumia, the NDC must have an Ashanti candidate. And I said, well, that's interesting. Is it you? He laughed and said, well, I mean, he's outside the country.

“…He laughed and said, look, this is where we are going because what we need is the Ashantis to decide that they are forgiving NPP and they are voting for them again. And they vote 70 percent, 78 percent NPP,” Adom-Otchere claimed.

He added saying, “The election is over. So, what we need to do as NDC is to stick to an Ashanti candidate that can secure Ashantis 35 percent. Then we fight for the rest. This Asiedu Nketiah thing is not going to work because you guys have gone for Bawumia. He was telling me, you guys have gone for Bawumia. And he said the conversation in Kumasi is changing.”
