The Chairperson of the lawyers hub-Kenya, Ms. Patricia Adusei-Poku, has offered expert advice on how to build and sustain meaningful connections throughout one’s career journey.

In this day and age, where connections and networking play a critical role in career development, Adusei-Poku emphasised that a key ingredient in building strong connections with others is having confidence in oneself.

Providing a detailed and results-driven approach, she said that individuals aiming to build strong networking relationships must be ready and committed to their goals, and actively connect with people who are where they aspire to be.

“This is the approach; you need to be willing to take a step forward towards where you want to be. The people in your space where you want to grow, find them, look for them, and offer to connect with them. I have never known a woman leader actually shoo other young people away. It's never happened as far as I know. But you need the confidence to approach them. You need your own self-confidence so shed that self-doubt,” Ms. Adusei-Poku advised at the She Builds Conference.

Ms. Patricia Adusei-Poku also asserted that most of the time, people who seek to connect often have a defeatist mindset due to self-doubts, which become barriers to their opportunities.

She advised against this, adding that those looking to build connections must believe in what they have to offer, as people learn and grow through mutual exchanges.

“You really believe that she's not willing to speak to you and so you don't make the call. Believe that you have something in you that I expect to also learn. I want to get to know you, so when you come telling me what you have, and that I should learn from you, I will definitely connect with you,” she added.

The She Builds Conference, held on September 10, 2025, provided a platform for young women, especially those aspiring to become leaders across various sectors.
