Pastor nabbed for attempting to procure corpse ‘waste’

A Kumasi-based pastor, who attempted to collect liquid waste from a corpse to enable him perform supernatural powers, has landed himself in trouble.

Pastor Philip Kwadwo Ofei, Head Pastor of the Global Pentecostal Ministry at Asawase, a suburb of Kumasi, was detained by security men at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) mortuary Friday morning, after requesting for the liquid waste.

According to reports pieced together by the Chronicle on Saturday, Pastor Ofei, who claimed to have been sent by a colleague man of God, Rev. Kwame Afriyie, of Freedom Way Chapel at Sefwi Praso, on Tuesday morning asked to speak with one of the security guards manning the morgue.

Upon meeting the security officer, Pastor Ofei asked his permission to get liquid waste from an embalmed corpse which had been prepared for burial.

According to the pastor, he needed the liquid waste to enable him prepare a concoction for one of his congregants who was suffering from a chronic disease, and badly needed healing.

Feeling suspicious about the intentions of the Pastor, the security guard feigned interest in the deal, and demanded GH¢l,500 from the man of God before agreeing to his request.

Pastor Ofei however could manage only GH¢l0, which the security guard reluctantly collected and asked him to wait while he contacted the mortuary manager for the item.

The security guard informed the hospital management and other security guards, who quickly apprehended him.

Upon his arrest, Pastor Ofei confessed that he was sent by his friend and colleague pastor, one Pastor Kwame Afriyie, to come and collect the liquid waste and that it was not his personal mission.

Meanwhile, the colleague pastor in question has categorically denied any knowledge of the embattled arrested pastor and the incident.

When reached on the phone, he confirmed his identity as being a pastor based in Sefwi-Praso, but refused to be drawn into the controversy saying "I do not know any pastor called Ofei, neither have I sent anybody to collect liquid from dead bodies; I am not a fake pastor; I do not believe in deities and evil powers."

Authorities at the hospital told the Chronicle that Pastor Ofei had been handed over to the Kumasi Police for investigations into the matter.
