Passport of Ibrahim Mahama not seized by EOCO - Sam George

National Democratic Congress’ (NDCs) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram Sam George has debunked media reports that the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has seized the passport of Ibrahim Mahama. The outspoken legislator said the businessman was not a flight risk to warrant EOCO to seize his passport.

Speaking in an interview with the media he said, "Someone who owns a cement factory and owns the kind of businesses that he owns in this country cannot be deemed to be a flight risk and so we should stop this sensationalism.’’

The Economic and Organised Crime (EOCO) has ordered businessman Ibrahim Mahama to deposit his passport with the state investigative body latest by today [Wednesday].

The businessman is being investigated by EOCO over an alleged financial malfeasance.

He was served with the invitation on Thursday April 13, 2017 and reported Tuesday April 18 for interrogation. Reports say Mr. Mahama was invited to answer questions over some dud cheques he issued to customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at Tema Port to clear some heavy duty equipment he had imported.

Responding to the issue, Sam George said, “another falsehood that has been put out there and has to be corrected is that Ibrahim’s passport has not been seized, as I speak to you he is in possession of his passport."

"When he went to EOCO on Wednesday, EOCO made a copy of the data page of his passport, his passport is still in his possession. Ibrahim is not a flight risk, someone who owns a cement factory and owns the kind of businesses that he owns in this country cannot be deemed to be a flight risk and so we should stop this sensationalism," he said.
