The Ahafo-Ano South District Police commander, DSP Augustine K. Mensah has called on passengers to be bold and speak out when drivers misconduct themselves on the roads.
The police chief said the unchecked misbehavior of drivers on the roads could cause accidents at the expense of precious lives of passengers.
DSP Mensah gave the admonition when he talked to a section of media men at Mankranso, the district capital on Wednesday, about the rate at which accidents are claiming lives in the country.
According to him, it is evident that many motor accidents are attributed to the negligence of the drivers who are often found to be tired behind the steering wheels.
He said the bottom line is not the non-maintenance of the roads but tiredness, wrongful overtaking, drunkenness and over speeding.
The District Police Commander noted that following the vigilance of his outfit, the Ahafo Ano South district has a low accident rate of 4% compared to other districts in the Ashanti region.
DSP Mensah, however, mentioned that the major challenge his administration is facing is galamsey operation which is fast destroying the environment, especially water bodies in the area.
He bemoaned the situation where owners of farmlands sell their lands to illegal miners and turn round to seek the assistance of the government to prevent the destruction of their lands. The police Commander also mentioned armed robbery as a menace even though it has been tamed to some extent.
