Parliamentary c'ttee rejects UG road tolls

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads and Transport has objected to the charging of road tolls by the University of Ghana (UG).

Some members of the committee in an interview with XYZ News said they are not happy with the introduction of tolls by the University.

They argue that the law permits only the Minister of Roads and Highways to announce tolls on roads after seeking parliamentary approval.

Road users are currently paying the tolls although the matter is being challenged in court by two students of the University.

The students have also petitioned Parliament over the matter.

Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee Theophilus Tetteh Chai told XYZ News that they will meet with the University council and the Ministry to settle the matter.
