Parliament to be dissolved tomorrow

The sixth parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana will end at midnight tomorrow, Friday January 6, 2017.

The seventh parliament of the Fourth Republic will be ushered in on Saturday January 7, 2017 for a four-year term.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), with 177 seats in parliament, will form the majority and will, therefore, move from the Speaker’s left hand side to occupy seats to his right.

The outgoing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will form the minority and will move to the left side of the house.

The leadership of parliament will also change as a new Speaker and Deputy Speakers will be chosen by members of the house.

Outgoing President John Dramani Mahama will deliver his final State of the Nation address to the sixth parliament before its dissolution in accordance with article 67 of the 1992 constitution.
