Parliament's coronavirus cases: Akandoh slams Osei Kyei Mensah

The Ranking Member on the select committee on Health, Hon Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has taken the Majority Leader of Parliament Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu to the cleaners over the latter’s disclosure that some MPs and staff of parliament who have tested positive to the COVID-19 were still reporting to work.

Describing the disclosure as strange, Mr. Akandoh said it looks surprising that the Majority Leader who recently denied media reports of some MPs and staff testing positive to the virus will today make such revelations.

He wondered how he [Majority Leader] got to know of this when he had categorically stated he was not aware of the identities of the affected persons.

The minority Member of Parliament for Juaboso also accused the Majority Leader and his government of playing politics with the lives of Ghanaians and MPs.

To him, the initial denial by the Majority Leader was a ploy between him, the Speaker and the presidency to allow the C.I. presented before the house by the EC to mature so they would have their way with the preparations towards the compilation of the new register.

He slammed the Majority Leader for denying the fact that some members and staff testing positive to covid 19 when the Minority Chief Whip Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak publicly confirmed same.

He is, therefore, calling on the Speaker and the leadership of Parliament to shut down parliament with immediate effect.

”I was shocked when I heard the Majority Leader disclosed that infected MPs, staff and journalists were still visiting parliament. He was the same person who denied media reports on this same story. When the Minority told the media this was an agenda and political capital for the government, you did not believe us. This was all a plan to ensure that the C.I. 126 would not mature if he had confirmed the story. After the C.I. matured, he has now come out to reveal that we have MPs who are positive,” he added.
