Parliament receives air conditioners from China

Accra, Oct. 28, GNA- The Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Peter Ala Adjetey, on Tuesday took delivery of two Haier air conditioners, worth 2,000 US dollars from the new Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Zhang Keyuan. The Chinese Ambassador presented the items during his first official visit to Parliament since he took office in Ghana.

He said the visit was to further strengthen Chinese relations with the Ghanaian parliament and Ghana as a whole.

Mr. Keyuan noted that China-Ghana relations, dates back to 1960, saying that the two countries have supported and continue to support each other in various ways.

He said currently China is involved in the construction of the Accra-Kumasi road, adding, "when we finish our bit of that road we will focus on the rehabilitation of the State House building housing the Ghanaian parliament."

Mr. Ala Adjetey was happy that the ambassador has plans for the rehabilitation of the building and offices of Parliament, which has come to a halt due to lack of funding.

He said the contract for the rehabilitation has been awarded to a Chinese construction firm, which did the work to a point, but has for the past few months stopped work due to lack of funds.

Mr. Ala Adjetey was hopeful that the new ambassador would assist Ghana to gain greater Chinese support, while in office.
