Members of Parliament (MPs) on Thursday expressed deep sympathy for the bereaved family of the late Dr Desmond Kabah, son of Mr Alowe Leo Kabah, MP for Chiana Paga.
The MPs called for the strengthening of the security system at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital as well as the whole nation.
The MPs expressed their condolences in their contributions, following a tribute read on the floor of Parliament by Mr. Dominic Nitiwul, MP for Bimbilla, to the late Dr Kabah.
Mr. Nitiwul said, “history tells us that a single tragic event in the life of a great nation can change and trigger a complete revolution in the way things are done”.
He said the tragic death of the young medical doctor should change this nation in the way simple but important things, especially personal safety and security were handled.
Mr. Nitiwul said “ Sunday May 27, 2012 will remain a black Sunday in the history of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana in general, but in particular, the family of Mr. and Mrs Leo Kabah.
He said “ As MPs, our hearts are with the family of our colleague and we pray with them to stay strong.”
Mr. Nitiwul said Dr Kabah’s unfortunate death has opened the nation to a debate about several silent, unexplained and sorrowful murders occurring in Ghana these days.
He said the people of Ghana were worried about the situation, and called on the security agencies to assure Ghanaians of their safety.
Mr Nitiwul expressed hope that the circumstances that led to the unfortunate demise of Dr Kabah should never happen again in Ghana.
Ms Samia Nkrumah, MP for Jomoro, said Africans were noted to be each other’s keepers, and the tragic death of the young doctor was a surprise.
Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the Minority Leader, said the police suspected foul play and had begun investigation into the cause of the death.
He said there was insecurity at Korle-Bu and that the police had erected security facilities there.
The late Dr Kabah was found dead in his room, number 42, on the third floor of Block N, which accommodates House officers at the hospital at about 0700 on Sunday, May 27, 2012.
Blood stains were found under his left armpit and scrotum with bruises on the leg and blood was trickling from the nostril resulting in blood soaking his bed sheet.**
