Parliament becoming an extension of NPP headquarters - Samson Ahi

Speaker Mike Ocquaye is being accused of being biased by Minority in Parliament Speaker Mike Ocquaye is being accused of being biased by Minority in Parliament

The Minority in Parliament has accused the current Speaker of Parliament Aaron Mike Oquaye of running parliament like an extension of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Bodi Constituency in the Western Region, Sampson Ahi believes the current speaker has an ulterior motive against the minority side in the house and has consistently taken steps to gag them from expressing their views on motions being laid before the house.

“I am told he is a Reverend but he should know that parliament cannot be run like his church or an extension of the NPP headquarters. He is running parliament like the NPP headquarters and we shall advise ourselves very soon”, he threatened.

According to him, since the current speaker took over he has consistently not being fair to the minority defending their decision to stage a walkout when the motion on the controversial AMERI power deal was laid.

“He should stop running the house like it is his personal property. We will not allow that to happen because he is making our work very difficult”, he added.

But Minister of Regional Reorganization and Development and MP for Okere, Dan Kwaku Botwe appealed to the minority to cultivate the habit of respecting the speaker who has contributed to his quota to the development of the country.

“He has taught some of them and they should know the interpretation of the standing orders are in his bosom. I will urge my colleagues not to see him as bias because he is not and has consistently shown fairness in the managing issues in the house”, he added.
