PV Obeng's last moments...

Consumate Politician and Distinguished Statesman, Paul Victor Obeng, died unexpectedly on Saturday of what is suspected to be an asthma or heart attack.

The Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission and Senior Presidential Adviser died at a hospital after he reportedly collapsed at the Agape Filling Station at Spintex Road.

But what really happened on that fateful day?

Peacefmonline sources say, "He was said to have collapsed behind his steering wheel just around the Agape filling station at Spintex, Accra, and was rushed to the Lekma Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Municipal Health Director at Lekma, Dr. Leticia Wiafe, told Matilda Wemega of Multi TV that, Dr. Obeng was brought to the hospital in a taxi.

The taxi driver reportedly saw Dr. Obeng's car parked in the middle of the road and decided to check and find out what was happening. He is said to have found Mr. Obeng's head bowed behind the steering wheel.

He quickly rushed him to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival."

Rest in peace, Fellow PV. You served your nation. Did the nation serve you in your moment of need?

Still can't get this part of the report off my mind. Hmm, our life is in His Hands. How responsive are we as a nation to emergencies like these where perhaps a rapid response by an ambulance could help?

Such a statesman rushed in a taxi to the hospital? Hale and hearty a few days before, collapsing in the middle of traffic behind his steering wheel...many questions.
