Utility users across Ghana will enjoy reduced electricity and water bills effective Wednesday, April 1, 2026, following a downward review of tariffs by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

The Commission announced that electricity rates have been lowered by 4.81 percent, while water charges have dropped by 3.06 percent for the second quarter of the year.

In a statement, the PURC indicated that the new rates take immediate effect as part of its regular quarterly tariff adjustment process.

It explained that the review was influenced by key economic factors, including fluctuations in the exchange rate between the Ghana cedi and the US dollar, prevailing inflation levels, the mix of power generation sources, and the cost of fuel, particularly natural gas used in thermal energy production.

The Commission said the adjustments are consistent with its mandate to ensure that utility pricing reflects current economic conditions.

In addition, the PURC has rolled out a new tariff structure for commercial Electric Vehicle (EV) charging services.

This marks the first introduction of such pricing in Ghana and is aimed at encouraging the shift toward cleaner and more sustainable energy use.
