The PURC has commiserated with the family of late Professor Thomas Akabzaa who passed away shortly after being sworn in as chairman of the commission’s board.
The delegation was led by commissioner Nana Yaa Akyempim Jantuah, a former Director of External Affairs at the PURC (Public Utilities Regulatory Commission), and included five other members of the commission.
The commissioners expressed their deep shock and sorrow at what they said is an untimely demise of Prof. Akabzaa and described it as a great loss not only to the commission but to the entire nation.
Speaking for the commission, Nana Yaa Jantuah highlighted Prof. Akabzaa’s exemplary service as a former chief director at the Ministry of Energy.
She praised his unwavering dedication to public service, noting that he was a man of principle who maintained high professional standards and did not compromise on integrity.
"Though he did not have the opportunity to formally begin his work with PURC, we are confident that his leadership would have brought immense value to the commission. His passing is a profound loss," she stated.
The commission also presented 20 cartons of bottled water and 20 cartons of soft drinks to the bereaved family.
They further pledged to actively participate in Prof. Akabzaa’s funeral rites to ensure he receives a befitting and dignified farewell.
