PURC Workers Union demands resignation of Executive Secretary

The Workers Union of the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) has hailed the resignation of Director of Public Relations and External Affairs Nana Yaa Jantuah.

PURC Local Union Chairman, Alhaji Abubakari Jabaru however said they were rather expecting the resignation of the Executive Secretary Samuel Sarpong, calling on him to do same.

“It is good she has resigned but we were expecting the resignation of the Executive Secretary to allow for a more competent hand to take over the management of the commission.

We think Nana Yaa’s resignation is a good decision because she would need time to be reporting to the BNI occasionally among others things. What is now bothering is the Executive Secretary himself and why he is still holding on to his post”, he observed.

According to him, they were clear in their request for thorough investigations into the matter and supported sanctions to be applied against those found to have flouted the laws.

Nana Yaa Jantuah tendered in her resignation to the Commission after reportedly being pressured following the financial scandal.

The Director of Public Relations and External Affairs, it was gathered tendered in her resignation letter soon after being released by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) following her alleged involvement in a financial scandal uncovered by Joy Fm, an Accra-based radio station.

Her resignation takes effect from November 2017 after her accumulated leave which begins June 4, 2017.
