PURC Maintains Tariffs For Next Quarter

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has maintained the tariffs on electricity and water rates in the country from August to October this year. According a release signed by its Chairman, Mr Kwame Pianim, the maintenance of the tariffs is in line with the implementation of the Automatic Adjustment Formula.

The release says the Commission applied a generation mix of 75:25 hydro/thermal ratio and it expects that the Volta Lake level would likely rise. According to the statement, the Commission would closely monitor the current unstable crude oil prices and also monitor the lake level for the quarter ending October 31, 2005.

The last review of by the (PURC), was the last quarter at which time, the Commission did not increase tariffs on the basis that the situation had not reached the level for tariffs to be increased.

The PURC is an independent body which has the responsibility to regulate the activities of the two main utility service providers, the Ghana Water Company (GWC) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
