The Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) has confirmed that records for at least 51,000 promoted teachers have been validated for placement on their new salary grades.
The validation follows a directive by the Ghana Education Service (GES) asking eligible teachers who participated in the 2026 promotion exercise to verify their application status by Thursday, October 15, 2026.

The process is expected to pave the way for the payment of salary arrears owed to teachers following their promotion.
Speaking to Citi News, PRETAG’s National Communication Director, Kingsley Ayimadu, expressed optimism that the government would fulfil its commitment to paying the arrears.
He explained that the validation process involves confirming the status of teachers at their respective schools before payments are made.
“Before payments are done, we validate at the school level to know those who are at post. And yesterday [October 14], the validation portal was opened and we realised that they are doing the payments even though the payments have not hit the accounts yet. But once you are validated and it is approved, you will see how much you will get," he said.
“One thing we also need to remind our people of is that those who are to receive the arrears, your arrears will come with your October salary. It means that on October 16, you will see your October salary with your arrears so if you are in that category, don’t be expecting another payment at the end of October. When your money comes from October 16, you should be waiting for your next payment at the end of November,” he added.
Ayimadu’s remarks suggest that eligible teachers whose records have been validated and approved should expect their promotion arrears alongside their October salaries, rather than as a separate payment later in the month.
He also urged teachers to take note of the payment schedule to avoid expecting an additional salary payment at the end of October.
The validation exercise forms part of the administrative process to ensure that teachers who qualify for the 2026 promotion exercise are properly placed on their new salary grades and receive the corresponding arrears.
