Director of Operations of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu, says there is nothing for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to celebrate about its 25 years in existence.

The NDC last Saturday, June 10, 2017 climaxed its 25th anniversary celebration at Mandela Park in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region with the call for party unity.

Since the start of the Fourth Republic in 1993, the NDC has assumed the reins of governance on four consecutive times.

But, speaking on Peace FM on Monday, June 12, 2017 in Accra, the vociferous PPP man asked: “What is NDC celebrating about”?

According to him, there was nothing for the party to be proud of considering how the party messed up the country’s economy when it had the opportunity to govern this country.

He was of the view that both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the (P) NDC have ruled this country for 34 years out of “our 60 years of independence.”

Nana Ofori explained that the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) which gave birth to the NDC, led by former President Jerry John Rawlings, ruled for 11 years after which Mr. Rawlings, military-turned civilian again from 1992-2000 ruled for another 8 years making it 19 years for him alone.

He continued that after former President John Agyekum Kufuor of the NPP had exited office in 2008 having also ruled for 8 years, the NDC again in 2009 led by the late Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, and former President John Dramani Mahama, each ruled for four years, bringing the total of years the two parties have governed this country to 34.

To this end, Nana Owusu Ofori, who was also the 2016 parliamentary candidate for the Effutu Constituency in the Central Region on the ticket of the PPP, called on Ghanaians to give the PPP a chance to govern this country.

He said both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC have failed Ghanaians and for that matter the two parties should not be allowed in 2020 to run the affairs of this country.

“PPP must be given the chance to move us from survival mode to living mode,” he added.
