POTAG gives ultimatum to government on salary delay

Tamale, July 23, GNA - The Tamale Branch of the Polytechnic Teachers' Association of Ghana (POTAG) has given the government three days ultimatum to implement the salary agreement signed in May 2003 or the workers would embark on another industrial action to press for their demand.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mr Napoleon Abiwu and Secretary, Mr Michael A. Brigandi, the POTAG said it negotiated with the government on May 13, 2003 for 40 per cent salary increase but this had not been fully implemented.

The statement said a partial payment of 17 per cent of the agreed per centage was effected immediately with arrears dating back to February 2003 but the remaining 23 per centage had since not been paid. It said the workers would not want to continue to wallow in misery and poverty, caused by a continuous denial of what is due them.
