POTAG Members Must Be Called to Order Now

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) the mother union of all students in the country is growing highly uncomfortable with the closure of the Kumasi Polytechnic as a result of POTAG members still holding forte to their strike. The Union has not failed to point out the ramifications of the POTAG strike on the student especially the final year students and the nation at large. The closure of the Kumasi Poly is worrying since chances are the other nine (9) Polytechnics would also witness a shut down in the coming days as a result of the prolonged POTAG strike.

The final year students who are supposed to have their long essays supervised are getting demoralize due to the prevailing circumstances.

As a Union, we believe some persons and institutions must be blamed for the current situation as far as the POTAG strike is concerned. The Professor Mills Government, Ministry of Education (MOE), Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Controller and Accountant General’s Department and the Ministry of Finance must all be blamed for the current status quo.

We cannot run our educational system the way it’s being run and expect to win the race of transmuting education into development. We can do better and the Professor Mills Government must do better.

The Union calls on the Professor Mills Government, Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to address the current circumstances with some immediacy before things get off hand. Thank you. Signed: Austin Brako-Powers (Press & Information Secretary-NUG
