POST OFFICE OPENED

A new Post Office has been opened at Jamase in Ashanti. This is in line with the government's policy of bringing postal services to the door steps of the people. The multi-million cedi project brings to five the number of post offices in the region. The Ghana Postal Services Corporation opened four post offices in the region last year. They are at Joaso, Effiduasi, Agona and Offinso. A deputy Minister of Communications, Commander P.M. G. Griffiths, unveiled a plague to open the Jamasi post office. It has 150 letter boxes a spacious counter for selling postage stamps, money orders, a communication centre and stationery shop. A residence for the Post Master is also attached to the building. Addressing a durbar of chief and people of Jamasi to mark the occasion Commander Griffiths praised the management of the corporation for its impressive success since its split from the former Post and Telecommunications Corporation. The Deputy Minister urged the management of the Corporation to remove inefficiency such as embezzlement of funds, circulation of fake stamps, postal and money orders from the service. The 2nd Brigade Commander and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ghana Telecom, Brigadier H.K. Anyidoho, urged the workers to provide high quality service for the people. He said the programme to bring Postal Services to the people should be vigorously pursued. The Effidua Sekyere District Chief Executive, Mr.. Rexford Anokye, mentioned the support the assembly is giving the corporation in the district. The Chief of Jamasi, Nana Gyimah Kese, commended the government for its commitment to the decentralization policy. gri
