POLICE OFFICER BRIBED

Two persons, who allegedly tried to bribe a Police Prosecutor, Inspector Alex Yartey Tawiah, have appeared before a Circuit Tribunal in Accra on charges of offering bribe to influence a public officer. They are Alhaji Fuseini, a farmer, and Ali Osumana, a trader, The pleaded not guilty and were each granted ?1million bail. According to the prosecution, between last December 4 and 6, Alhaj Fuseini, Osumana and one Shaibu Mohammed went to the residence of Inspector Yartey Tawiah Prosecutor during the trial of the Akwatia mob and solicited his assistance to get bail for two of the accused persons, Alhaji Issah Solo, and Fuseini Abubakar, who had been remanded in custody for their alleged involvement in the Akwatia riot. They allegedly gave the Inspector ?200,000.00 on Thursday 4th December. They gave him ?300.000.00 the next day and ?700.000.00 on the 6th of December. However, Inspector Yartey Tawiah had already alerted his superiors on the bribe attempt, and on 6th December when the accused persons were presenting the ?700.000.00 to the Inspector, they were arrested. The case has been adjourned to the 23rd December. gri
