PNC reschedules national campaign launch

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has rescheduled the launch of its national campaign and outdooring of its manifesto and running mate for the 2012 general elections.

Instead of the event taking place this Saturday, September 29, it has been slated for next Saturday, October 6, 2012.

The venue of the event, Gwolu, in the Upper West Region, however, remains the same.

The flagbearer of the PNC, Mr Hassan Ayariga, who made this known to the Daily Graphic said the decision to reschedule the event was as a result of the floodings that had affected the three northern regions following heavy rains.

He said checks carried out by the party in the regions revealed that the rains had destroyed major roads leading to the Upper West Region and Gwolu in general.

“Due to these circumstances, we are compelled by such problems to change our date of the national campaign launch, outdooring of manifesto and running mate,” he said.

He added that October 6 was chosen with the hope the rains would have stopped for people and vehicles to move smoothly on the roads in the Upper West and the other regions.

Mr Ayariga noted that the change of date for the event slated in Gwolu did not mean that the party would stop its campaigns.

“We are going to continue with our campaign programme which is now taking us to the Volta, Central, Eastern, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Western regions. We are of the hope that by next week we will be able to launch the manifesto,” he said.

He indicated that the continuation of the campaign which began in the Greater Accra Region would be in the Volta Region from this Friday.

On the manifesto of the party, Mr Ayariga said the document was ready and that “what we are doing is to print the manifesto and distribute copies.

With regard to his female running mate, he said, Ghanaians should expect a lot of surprises on the day she would be outdoored.

“We would outdoor the running mate but it would come with a lot of surprises,” he said.

The PNC flagbearer began his campaign tour in the Greater Accra Region about two weeks ago.

The tour took him to Nima, Agbogbloshie, Rawlings Park, Zabrama Lane, Kaneshie, Dansoman, Sukura, Sakama, Kokompe, Darkuman, Fadama, Nii Boi Town and Achimota, among other places.
