The struggle for the leadership role in the opposition National Democratic Congress continues even as the party reconciles its defeat in the 2016 polls. The struggle for the flagbearership position appears to have gained momentum following the introduction of 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin and Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu to the list of possible contenders for the role. This brings to about five, the number of persons who may likely contest former President John Dramani Mahama.

Also, the investigation and possible sanctioning of some Members of Parliament alleged to have engaged in visa fraud remains a topical subject that many Ghanaians continue to talk about. Three current Ghanaian MPs and a former lawmaker have been cited in separate alleged visa offences by the UK government and a 10-year visa ban placed on them by the UK government.

The fight against Galamsey is still on. Pressure continues to mount on government to ban the menace that is said to be destroying the country's water bodies.

Brother of former President Jon Dramani Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama, continues to make the headlines as he battles with the Ghana Revenue Authority over his failure to settle debts owed the state institution. The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) last week said it had asked two companies owned by Mr. Ibrahim Mahama to clear their indebtedness to the Authority earlier than originally planned. MBG Ltd, a heavy duty equipment dealer, and Holman Brothers, both owned by Mr. Mahama, brother of former President John Dramani Mahama, owed the GRA colossal amounts of money in import duties.
