The last day of the four-day final funeral rites of the late Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, is underway.
After the funeral, the late Nana Konadu Yiadom III is expected to be interred at the Bantama Royal Mausoleum.
Almost every paramount chief and queen mother of Asanteman is at the funeral to pay homage to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and also mourn the late Queen Mother.
The President of the nation, John Dramani Mahama, is among the dignitaries at the final funeral rites. Also present at the funeral are former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as top government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the 14th Asantehemaa and elder sister of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, died on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.
Her passing was formally announced by the Asantehene during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on August 11, 2025.
She succeeded her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, in 2017 after a 39-year reign, serving as a key advisor and custodian of Ashanti traditions for eight years.
The one-week observance was held on August 21, 2025, with the final funeral rites ongoing from September 14 to 18, 2025, at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. According to the official schedule by the planning committee, the Asantehemaa was laid in state at Manhyia Palace, where the public and various dignitaries filed past her body.
