The Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, has charged the Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to speed up investigation into the death of a 25-year-old man who is suspected to have been murdered at K-Bee Down at Oyarifa in Accra.

The deceased has been identified as Osaridan Essay, a Nigerian and a resident of Oyarifa.

He was allegedly shot and killed by police in the head at close range as he tried to escape, according to an eyewitness.

Police carried out a swoop on Monday dawn at a suburb of Oyarifa in connection with some internet fraudsters.

“When he [the police] followed him [deceased] to some place, he just shot the guy… The policeman returned. So, he didn’t even inform his colleagues that he killed one of the guys. They left and came [back] to arrest the rest of the people [suspects] and left with them,” Assemblyman for Oyarifa Teiman Electoral Area, Daniel Kweku Owusu told Joy FM on Tuesday 27 March 2018.
