Owner of strayed animals fined

Cape Coast July 11, GNA- A circuit court in Cape Coast, on Wednesday sentenced Emmanuel Kumi, a farmer to a fine of GH=A2 50.00 (=A2500,000) for allowing his goats to stray into the premises of the Cape Coast police headquarters at Pedu, a suburb of the city. Kumi who was convicted on his own plea would go to prison for one month in default of the fine.

The court also ordered him to make a pen for his animals. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Cyril Ackom told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu that for sometime now people living around the Cape Coast Police Headquarters, have turned the area into a grazing ground for animals.

He said a police taskforce formed to catch stray animals and prosecute their owners caught some animals including those of Kumi. He said Kumi was prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
