Overlord of Mamprugu appeals to the President

Nalerigu (N/R), April 8, GNA - The Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayire Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai, has appealed to the President to consider building road networks in his traditional area.

He said he had observed the good works of the President in cutting sods for roads across the country, adding that roads linking the Mamprugu Traditional Area were also in a very deplorable state and must be given equal attention.

Nayire Naa Abdulai who is also the Acting President of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs made the appeal on Thursday at Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region. He said this was not the first time an appeal had been made for roads in the Mamprugu area, adding that they were part of the campaign messages of the president.

The chief said women who are in labour and others who are attacked by snakes through shea nut picking found it difficult to reach the health centres due to bad road, leading to preventable deaths.

He said the situation got worse in the raining season where farmers found it difficult to cart their goods to the market centres. He said the Gambaga/Walewale road, which has 13km already tarred leaving 36km, was also a major death-trap in the rainy season, 93It becomes very un-motorable leading to the break down of vehicles".
