Overhaul of Kotoko management structure needed – Kwabena Yeboah

President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana Kwabena Yeboah says a major shift is needed in the way Kumasi Asante Kotoko is run if the team is to reclaim its old glory.

Speaking on #GPLXpress on Wednesday, May 27, Kwabena Yeboah said the team’s handling especially in the area of leadership is problematic.

He added that until the corporate governance structure is looked at again, it will be difficult for the club to make any significant gains on the African continent.

“Until there is that paradigm shift, where Kotoko would have strategic investors and the management and ownership structure of the club alters, I am afraid Kotoko will never ever be that successful within the African context.”

The challenge with the current structure, he says, has to do with the varied layers of the chain of command, which often creates confusion.

“There is certainly an irony, it is a paradox if you like; anytime they have had an Executive Chairman or a CEO and a Board is imposed on that structure, Kotoko has always had problems. All the success stories of Kotoko had to do with eras where they had either a CEO who was independent or an Executive Chairman.”

Kwabena Yeboah has documented Kotoko for over 4 decades.

He appeared on this week’s GPLXpress, which tackled the complex case of running Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
