A total of 509,737 candidates would be partaking in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), reveals the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

According to WAEC the candidates are from 16,058 schools.

Even though the Acting Head of Test of Administration Division at WAEC, Jemima Vanderpuye says the Council is still receiving applications, she maintains any new addition would not be significant.

She revealed that the Council would conduct the BECE at 1,768 centers.

She further announced that 316, 980 students have registered for this year’s WASSCE adding the candidates are from 946 schools.

Meanwhile, the Head of the National Office of WAEC, Very Rev. Sam Nii Nmai Ollenu has announced that this year’s WASSCE would start on April 3 instead of February.

Rev. Ollenu said the decision was taken after the Council managed to reduce the examination processing time from 90 days to 67 days noting that the decision took into consideration an appeal from government.
