Over 5,000 ghost names out of voters' register

The names of 5,858 deceased registered voters in the Upper West region of Ghana have been removed from the voters register.

Mr. Samuel Boadu, Wa district electoral officer made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday at Wa said this was done during the voters exhibition exercise.

He said during the exercise, family members and people in the communities who attended the funerals of their deceased relatives and friends took the opportunity to request the electoral commission to delete the names of the dead ones.

Boadu said voters who had lost their voter identify cards are now rushing to the offices of the EC daily to get new ones while those with thumb printed identity cards are also exchanging them for the photo ones.

He said registered voters from the region who are residing outside the region are coming to the offices to exchange their cards for the photo ID cards. Boadu appealed to party agents to cross check results of the December 7 elections from the regional electoral offices to ensure that what they collect tally with the EC's.-
